Lam Research: They make the machines that make microchips.
And they are also Tualatin’s largest employer.
Nestled in the trees of Tualatin’s beautiful light industrial area is one of the worlds leading manufactures of semiconductor equipment. For decades Tualatin’s largest employer was Meridian Park Hospital but that changed a few years ago. Lam Research Corporation is little known outside the chip industry but in their world they are the best and biggest. In Tualatin, Lam Research operates a 600,000-square-foot facility spread across 52 acres. Over the last 18 months alone, that facility added 1,000 new workers. They launched operations in Tualatin as Novellus in 2000 after acquiring the site from Oki Semiconductor. Since then Lam has grown to be a great steward in our community with their contributions to STEM, STEAM, Women in Engineer, leadership within our Chamber of Commerce and their annual Scholarship. Have a peek at this interesting presentation to learn some history of the land they built on, the founder and the company itself.
