Tualatin Heritage Center

The Tualatin Heritage Center is managed by the Tualatin Historical Society in partnership with the City of Tualatin.

In 2003, an historic 1926 Craftsman-style church on Lower Boones Ferry Road near Tualatin Sherwood Road was donated to the Historical Society. Methodists worshipped there until 1982 when they outgrew the building and moved to a new campus on Martinazzi Avenue. Afterward, other congregations and businesses occupied the building.

When careful inspection deemed the wood structure sound, the Society began a campaign to save and refit it to become a Heritage Center. It was one of just a few historic buildings remaining after Tualatin’s rapid growth began in the 1970s.

After signatures were gathered from over 1500 residents, the Tualatin City Council gave the green light to proceed. After months of fundraising, planning, and permitting, early one Sunday in July, 2005, the building was lifted off its foundation and trailered to its new home near Sweek Pond. After several more months of retrofitting inside, the doors officially opened February 11, 2006. The outside of the building retains its original 1926 appearance.

The building still holds cherished memories for many. It was the scene of countless baptisms, weddings and funerals and for many years was Tualatin's only church. In its new role, it houses Tualatin Historical Society’s repository of local history resources and is operated in partnership with the City of Tualatin to offer public programs and cultural activities for the general community. It is also available to rent for family reunions, weddings, small parties, business workshops. It is equipped with up-to-date audio-visual equipment and can comfortably seat approximately 50. Our patio is also attractive but not covered. Potential users are encouraged to make an appointment for a short tour weekdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (503-885-1926).
