Quilts on display, speakers, raffle and more!

The Tualatin Historical Society is presenting “THE FABRIC OF OUR LIVES,” a quilt show and program at the Tualatin Heritage Center in Tualatin, Oregon.

The show will feature a display of historic and vintage quilts owned or made by area residents.

Show times are Friday, March 14 from 10am-2pm; and Saturday, March 15 from 10am-4pm.

The Tualatin Historical Society has five historic quilts in their collection, all made in Tualatin, the oldest sewn in 1916. A small group of interested members displayed these five quilts and their stories at a short program back in 2022. The response was enthusiastic, and the group decided to expand to a show and share even more vintage and historic quilts with the wider community in March 2023. Attendance at that multi-day show was so robust that the group decide to host another show this year.

Loaned quilts will be on display during Heritage Center open hours on Friday from 10am-2pm.

Expanded hours on Saturday, March 15 will feature two guest speakers.

At 11am Denise Gies and Joan Spencer, both from Northwest Quilters Guild, will present a talk on “Chronicles of Covid-19” and how they captured the feelings and effects of that time in quilts.

At 2pm, Carol Weber of the Latimer Quilt & Textile Center in Tillamook County will present a bed-turning of historic quilts in their collection.

Don’t miss the chance to buy a raffle ticket for only $1 to win one of three complete quilt kits. The drawing will take place on Saturday afternoon at the close of the program. Winners do not have to be present.

We are still in search of historic and vintage quilts to display with interesting stories and fabrics. If you have a noteworthy heirloom quilt and want to participate, email us at volunteer@tualatinhistory.org for details and an application form.
