This hour-long presentation will show evidence of the power of these floodwaters at various points along the Columbia River between Grand Coulee Dam to the mouth of the Willamette River here in Portland. The author has kayaked nearly the entire length of this stretch of the river taking hundreds of photos as he drifts along downstream

Bill Burgel received his BS in Engineering at the University of Michigan 1971; MS in Geology at Idaho State University 1986. Bill retired from working 42 years in the railroad industry in both engineering and operations positions. He blended his knowledge of rail engineering and operations plus that of geology to deal with the continual challenges faced by operating a major railroad. Overlaps between the railroad industry and geology include such things as: slope stability, bank erosion constraints, tunneling, earthquake notification, as well as the day-to-day maintenance issues such as keeping the ballast section clear of fines, and dealing with run-off.
