Scientific Discovery of Glaciers in the American West, Their Current Condition and Probable Future
This presentation retraces the history of scientific discovery of glaciers in the western continental US. Science did not recognize the existence of glaciers in the west until after the Civil War, and it was controversial, involving professionals and amateurs. The presentation will then summarize the glacier changes over the past century, the causes, and finish with predictions for the future.
