City Art on Display at the Heritage Center 2023

The public art you don’t see

Made possible by a grant from the Cultural Trust of Oregon and Cultural Coalition Washington County

The public art you don’t see…

You see art all over town. There are sculptures, murals and even the Art Walk. But perhaps you didn’t know that there is a treasure trove of art which the city has collected over the years. Janet Steiger Carr, Tualatin Arts Advisory Committee Chair, and Julie Ludemann, Tualatin’s Recreation Manager, presented this amazing collection at the Heritage Center in August and it remained on display through the fall. For more than 25 years, the City’s Arts Advisory Committee has purchased over 300 paintings, sculptures, photographs and other media that capture moments in time or artistic interpretations of our town’s life and culture. Many of these can be seen in public buildings, and in parks and byways. Dozens of youth contributions over the years are part of a Student Visual Chronicle included in the collection. THS collaborated with the City on photos of early Tualatin which can be seen in a book available at the Heritage Center. If you didn’t have a chance to visit us, no worries,  our photographer, Al Stewart, captured that display for you here. SCROLL DOWN
